SOUTH SWEDEN FLIGHT ACADEMY

TYPERATINGS ON MULTI-CREW AIRCRAFT

South Sweden Flight Academy offers type rating courses for the common multi-crew aircraft:

  • Boeing 737 Classic

  • Boeing 737 NG

  • Airbus 320

We also offer type rating courses for:

  • Avro RJ/BAe

Regardless of aircraft type, the courses follow essentially the same structure.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum of 100 hours flight time as Pilot-in-Command

  • Valid instrument rating for multi-engine aircraft

  • Completed MCC (Multi-Crew Cooperation) course

  • ATPL theory

Course Description

Our type rating courses for multi-crew aircraft normally take about five weeks to complete and consist of three parts:

1. Theoretical Course

  • The technical type course is conducted as CBT (computer-based training) over 10 days. The training can be done as home study before the classroom sessions.

  • Performance / Mass & Balance / Flight Planning are taught in the classroom over two days.

  • The theoretical part of the type course concludes with a written exam in each subject.

2. Synthetic Flight Training

  • The first eight hours are completed in a Cockpit Procedure Trainer, Cockpit System Simulator, or Fixed Base Simulator.

  • 32 hours in a Full Flight Simulator (FFS). Each session consists of 4 hours of flight time plus briefing and debriefing.

  • The synthetic flight training concludes with a skill test for the aviation authority, lasting two hours in a full flight simulator.

This part of the training is usually spread over about three weeks to create the best possible learning conditions.

3. Aircraft Training

Finally, you will perform 4–6 landings in the actual aircraft. The number of landings depends on your previous experience with similar aircraft. The training is conducted in cooperation with airlines that the flight school collaborates with.

This phase typically takes about one day.

Training Locations

Theoretical training is normally conducted at our facilities at Malmö Airport.
Full Flight Simulator training takes place at training centers in Scandinavia depending on aircraft type:

  • Boeing 737 Classic – Stockholm

  • Boeing 737 NG – Copenhagen / Stockholm / Oslo

  • Airbus 320 – Copenhagen / Stockholm

  • AvroRJ - Milano
