ME - Multi Engine Piston

A guide for You who are thinking of flying with more than one engine

WHAT?

South Sweden School of Aeronautics is offering courses in Multi Engine Piston, or MEP(A).

The theory courses are intended for already proficient pilots on at least PPL level.

WHY?

Well, let us see now. Twins must be safer. Twins can land safely if one engine quits on you. Twins come regularly with de-icing equipment. Twins normally come with sophisticated navigation equipment, good autopilots, more radios, more instruments, more buttons, whistles, warning lights… Of course a twin is safer, as long as the pilot can handle it!

IS IT DIFFICULT?

It does require a commitment.

The theory is some repetition of old knowledge and some new.

The practical flying requires a more of a structured attitude than the average SEP pilot is used to.

But difficult: No.

THEORY:

15 hours of instructor led instruction normally held during a weekend.

AIRCRAFT, MULTI ENGINE

We use the schools own Gulfstream American 7 "Cougar" in Malmö Airport Sturup.

The training comprises 6 hours of actual aircraft training.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Valid PPL(A) with SEP and 70 hrs of flying time.

AIRCRAFT, MULTI ENGINE IR

We do offer a Multi Engine Piston IR, but only as an add-on to a SEP IR + MEP VFR.

3 hours of theory plus 5 hours of flying.
